ot of us bought the post 1975 Spiders with the ugly and heavy rubber/pipe bumpers, really disturbing the clean Pininfarina line.

Many loves the original Fiat Spider, Pininfarina design presented in 1966, but “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”. It’s difficult to find a rust free car in original form, from before 1975.

Restore the beauty of clean Pininfarina line with bumper4fiat124spider

Many  bought the post 1975 Spiders with the ugly and heavy rubber/pipe 5 mph bumpers really disturbing the clean Pininfarina line.

Many loves the original Fiat Spider, Pininfarina design presented in 1966, but “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”. It’s difficult to find a good rust free car in original form, from before 1975.

Our solution is not pretending anything. Completely new designed bumpers and front turn & park lights. Within ca. 2 hours using simple wrenches, original screws and mounting brackets you can fit your Spider with new bumpers. Beautifully bended, welded and polished, stainless steel pipes will fit all post 1974 Spiders.

You can downgrade it to before 1975 look, but the installation of original very expensive bumpers and turn indicators requires front panel cutting, paint job and is irreversible . Some other options cost a lot of money and effort but the result is not always perfect.

First you can do is remove the bumpers completely, the car looks and runs better, but something is missing visually and there is entirely no protection.

Rear

The two rear fastening screws "A" are located in the trunk.
Before starting the installation, it is recommended to run the fuel tank almost empty to make it light. It is necessary to unscrew it and lift it up slightly in order to be able to remove the rear bumper left fixing screw . The tank does not have to be completely separated and dismantled, just remove the 4 fastening screws
"B"and lift the tank a bit from behind, it is much easier if it is light. Remove both screws, pull out the old bumper, insert the new one, screw in the screws again, fasten the tank again.

Front

The front bumper main screws "C" are accessible through wheel arches, turn the wheels for easy access. There are two additional screws"D" holding the metal clamp that press the rubber ring over the damper tube, accessible through the rectangular openings where the lights will be placed. These two screws just need to be loosened, they don't have to be removed, pull out the old bumper, insert the new one, screw the screws back in. The new front bumper has two pairs of mounting holes to choose from, for a smoother look or more protection. Don't forget to grease the screws when reseting them.

ORDER

I always loved my 77’ Fiat 124 Spider, except it's ugly bumpers. In 1974 the US regulations forced all manufacturers to adopt to so called 5MPH rule. This rule says that during the crash test with the speed of 5MPH no damage should reveal. This rule was forced by the insurers trying to avoid policy payments from 90% low speed traffic jam accidents, caused by automatic transmission careless braking. FIAT designed and adopted the new heavy (ca. 30 kg each) bumper with shock-absorbers, making the car look and drive much worse than the original one. As most of the Spiders were sold in the US, FIAT sold the new bumper on all markets. The 5PM rule bumpers is not only the matter of aesthetics, by far the worst part of those heavy  battering rams is what they do to handling. It’s much worse than an extra passenger on board, as this extra weight is located on car’s very ends. All that weight hanging as the pendulum there is disastrous, making a sweet-handling machine into a nervous slug. Here is our cure for that pain.

Lights

The lights have to be connected with original cables, depending on the existing plug version, it may be necessary to cut the cables to the existing lamps and to install the new supplied plugs, the poles of the mew lamps are crearly marked. The lights are attached to the back of the front panel with super strong neodymium magnets, so that no work is necessary there. The new, 3 mm thick ABS plastic base can be painted by the buyer in the car color or any other.
